Prairie View Middle School Sun Prairie DISTRICT PIANO FESTIVAL: Tuesday, February 13, 2024 Sun Prairie East High School Solo & Ensemble FestivalSolo and Ensemble Festival is open to students in grades 6-12 who participate in their school music programs. Solo and Ensemble Festival is run at both the district and state level and teaches students the valuable life skills of dedication, perseverance, and striving for excellence.
The solos and ensembles performed are chosen from a list provided by WSMA and are categorized into three levels of difficulty. Overture teachers help prepare their students who wish to participate in this rewarding performance experience. On the day of the festival students perform their prepared solos and ensembles for an adjudicator. Students receive a rating from the adjudicator as well as verbal and written comments regarding their performance. All students are awarded medals for performing. Those students who perform music at the highest level (class A) and receive a rating of a 1* are eligible to perform at the state level as well. |
Preparing for Solo & EnsembleBy Thanksgiving - Have your music ordered. Please start as soon as possible in your search for a piano accompanist. We highly recommend performing with an accompanist for solos. This is an important part of this learning experience for the student.
By Christmas - Notes and rhythms should be under control. Begin including dynamics, articulation, phrasing, musicality and nuance. Make sure your accompanist has the piano part for your piece. Let your band director know if you have any time conflicts on the day of Festival. We may be able to request morning times, mid-day times or afternoon times. We cannot be specific—it’s too big a festival. One Month before - (When we return to school after Christmas Break) Dynamics, articulation, phrasing, musicality and nuance are continuing to develop. You should begin practicing with your accompanist now. Set up several practices, including at least one the week of the performance. One Week before - Be ready to go! Make sure you have at least one practice with your accompanist this week for polishing. The Day of Festival - PLAY GREAT and HAVE FUN! |
